The World Outside My Window

My office window looks out the front of the house and I look out at what’s going on during the day. Doing this is what has made me yearn for retirement as I watch my neighbors, Ed and his wife, who I forget her name, sorry guys.

Now that spring has arrived, most days Ed spends piddling around in his yard. Picking up any trash blown in from the road, weeding, mowing, etc. Sometimes he works on his car. When he wants to take a break, he sits on his front porch swing and watches the traffic go by. He might be snoozing, can’t tell from here.

All day he and his wife are coming and going and just busy as bees. They have lots of visitors and lots to do.

Whenever they are out in the yard about 90% of the minimal traffic on our road beeps and waves at them.

And now, Ed is putting his American flags on his fence posts to celebrate the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.

So thank you Ed and his wife, for showing me what Steve and I are working so hard for – a relaxing fulfilling retirement. A retirement filled with spending days together, doing whatever needs doing, going where needs going and just enjoying life.

Pride

I have remembered to take the trash out on trash night for three weeks straight! Hooray!

What a weekend!

I would have to say this has been the most exciting and eventful weekend I have had in a long time.

Friday Jake and I went to see Wolverine. We have been so excited about this movie for weeks! Months maybe! It was good. Great super-hero movie and as usual with these kinds of movies I didn’t want it to end. The special effects left a lot to be desired though – to the point it was distracting how bad some of it was. And some of the dialogue was ultra-cheesy. I also don’t like when a fairly big name actor is credited with being a part of the movie and is even taking part in the promotion tour prior to the opening and then they .. well let’s just say, remember Drew Barrymore in Scream? No? well … ok then.

Saturday was Derby Day! Despite my repeated efforts and excuses to try to get out of going to the annual party at a friend’s house in Laurel (even tried to use the Swine Flu at one point! I was feeling really lazy Saturday morning!), Jake and I were there and ultimately I was very glad I went (as I knew I would be, just hard to get going sometimes). I studied the racing form for an hour or so before placing bets at the track in Laurel. I picked a few I liked based on performance, based on Fred’s thoughts and based on their names. There was a horse named Desert Party that spoke to me since my husband is having his own little party in the desert these days. That horse failed. There was a horse named Papa Clem that I bet on since my Daddy recently gave himself a name of "Clem" in a game we play. I thought that was fate smacking me in the face. That horse came in 4th! Then I made my standard longest shot I can find bet pulled right out of my butt. Guess who won? That’s right. This chick! Yay me!

Today Jake and I traveled to Maryland again to see my brother and to go tux shopping with him. I got to meet his new puppy – which I will surely steal one day so watch out! We went to lunch, gave Pizza Hut a hard time about our food arriving two minutes later than their guarantee – and got half off our check. Who really cares about two minutes? Not me! But they shouldn’t make promises they can’t keep! Sorry for their luck! Since we were right down the road from Daddy & Nancy we popped in on them for a few minutes then we went trolling around looking for tuxes. That was fun, just cause we were all hanging out – the actual tux shopping was a little dull.

Now the weekend is coming to a close and its back to the grind tomorrow. It will be a nice break from my uber-exciting weekends.
