Pardon me Your Honor

I was visited yesterday by a dude running for Adams County Judge. He was just that, a total dude. Blonde hair, muscley, tanned skin, young and very much a politician.

Since living here I have gotten over my fear of random visitors (in R-town an unexpected vistor is never a good thing) and actually wanted to talk to him. So he told me about himself, his career history his views and yadda yadda yadda.

He told me he was the only Judge running who had the endorsement of the F.O.P. (isn't that the point of a political endorsement? a group supports one candidate? so his being the "only" candidate endorsed by the F.O.P. really isn't that impressive) Then he told me he is a Republican and very conservative on all the issues. We talked about children and the growing drug problem in the area and things like that. We talked for a good 5 - 10 minutes I guess. Nice guy.

Backed by the Boys in Blue and a Republican - 'nuff said. He has my vote.

Then later I got to thinking ... why does it matter if a Judge is a Republican or a Democrat? I understand they are also individuals and are entitled to their own opinions. But on the bench, isn't Lady Justice blind? Shouldn't the law be the law and a Judge do his job based only on the law and NOT his or her personal feelings on the matter?

A Judge doesn't make new laws, present new laws, pass or reject new laws, nor does he represent my interests in Congress.

But, suffice it to say he does still have my vote and I hope should I ever appear in his court room for defacing an Obama campaign sign next election that he will empathize and let me go.

  1. You're not a single parent...you're a Navy Wife! And that's why you can do it. Because both of you are struggling through the separation, knowing it will all be worth it and anticipating the day he gets home.

I'm proud of you, and proud of Jake, too!!

    Love you.
Keep writing. I've missed reading notes from you over the last 15 years. ;)
